Orca Anyone?

The interest was Orcas, so my job was to find ways to connect that to areas of skills we needed to work on, or review. The math was easy – using cubes to compare our heights to the length of a normal killer whale. That visual caused some wide eyes.  Then it was counting on a number chart to a normal age point. Labeling the body parts as we watched some video of Orcas hunting seal pups.

A take home project was wanted, so I hit my Pinterest boards – Ocean Theme first. There I found a classroom bulletin board that had sharks and orcas. I clicked to find the le sson was on sharks. However, I was able to see the Orca well enough to figure out how we could make ours.

  1. What a wonderful way to learn about comparing spatial relations. I love the use of blocks to measure the children and compare their height to that of the whales. The orca art project is adorable, too.
